I forgot yesterday was Pi Day. More so because I don't care than I wasn't paying attention. So last night while grocery shopping I picked up an apple pie since this is America.
Right from opening the box I have a few doubts. Do pie crusts normally have cracks running through them? I'm not the biggest pie connoisseur so I'm not sure. But the missing chip on the side isn't a good look either. It certainly doesn't have that freshly baked smell.
I cut the pie and this happens. The pie crumbled. It lost all structural integrity right away. I know what happens to the first piece you cut out; it's always the ugliest. But this crust gave in before I had the knife entirely under the slice. Does that affect flavor? No. But presentation is important too. A collapsed pie isn't pretty.
The pie isn't bad though. I rarely buy mass produced pies so I don't have much to compare it to. But it definitely tastes like apple pie. It's got a flaky crust, but flaky in the soft sense, not in the psycho girlfriend sense. The apples are soft and chewy with a little hint of cinnamon. There's nothing fancy in here, just sticking to the basics. 6/10
