RIP Lemmy

There's not much else I could add that thousands of others haven't already said.  This is what Motorhead reported on their Facebook shortly after the news broke:

"There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.

We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.

We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.
Have a drink or few.

Share stories.

Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.

HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.

Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister

Born to lose, lived to win."

Fucking Lemmy.  The guy took a goddamn video game from the most famous rock and roll bar in the world and just sat it down next to his couch.  No one else could get away with that.
I was lucky enough to see Motorhead live twice.  Both shows gave me one of my favorite Motorhead memories.  The first show I saw had them headlining.  At one point, Lemmy was addressing crowd who were drunk and loud as per the usual rock show.  Lemmy paused, took a breath, and said "Shut the fuck up when I'm talking."  He didn't raise his voice.  He didn't change his inflection.  He just told us to quiet down.  And we fucking did.  Because he was Lemmy.
The second show, they opened for Megadeth and was more Phil than Lemmy, but not the point.  The band played one or two songs first then addressed the crowd.  At one point Phil says "If you'd like us to play louder, put both your hands in the air."  Everyone there put their hands up before Phil finished his sentence.  Phil and Lemmy looked at each other, shrugged, and motioned for the sound guy to turn the volume up.  Of course my ears hurt after the show, but why else would you see Motorhead?
     RIP Lemmy.  Killed by death.
